YASU is a nonprofit that empowers young adult cancer patients, survivors, and co-survivors (partners/caregivers) through emotional, social, and financial support. They offer professionally led support groups, wellness events, financial grants, respite trips, and peer-led community programs—enhancing quality of life during and after cancer treatment. They have lots of free programs for those in Southwest PA. They also put on one of our founders favorite events, Cancer Camp.
Virtual & in-person support groups: Professionally led chats and social meetups for survivors, LGBTQ+ individuals, caregivers, and grief support. Registration via membership required.
Calm Pittsburgh counseling grant: Up to 12 free therapy sessions available to YASU members (Western PA region).
Rae of Hope trips: Free day or overnight respite retreats to seaside, spa, or cultural destinations aimed at relaxation and reconnection.
Annual YA Cancer Camp: A weekend sleep-away camp featuring meals, activities, and peer bonding—open to patients, survivors, and co-survivors.
Research Registry participation: A self-reported registry tracking financial toxicity, mental health, and social support to guide program evaluation and research partnerships.
Diversity, equity & inclusion policy: A formal DEI commitment to serve YA survivors and co-survivors equitably and respectfully.
Who– YASU Members between 18-45 years old and reside in US
When– Rolling but closed in December and has specific dates to apply.
Awarded– up to $600 for things such as Rent, Mortgage, Utilities, Fertility, Integrative Services, Groceries, Gas, and e-gift cards.
Total Awarded – $60,000 in 2024
Additional Documentation Required – Verification of cancer diagnosis via any document containing applicants and facilities name/diagnosis accepted. Copy of bill if applying for bill assistance. Two-Three sentence statement of need.
